again commenting just in case :)
ReplyDeleteI really like reading your blog posts because of your pure enthusiasm and love for the films you talk about. I haven’t actually heard of Dogma, but it seems like one that I should definitely check out some time. I thought I was interesting that you brought up the controversy around this movie, linking to articles as well as giving your own opinion, as I think it’s always interesting to see how film affects society and culture.
ReplyDeleteI also really like that you add lots of pictures and GIFs from the movie within your posts so that even if you haven’t watched the film, you can still get a feel for the tone and the characters and everything.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I do enjoy film, arts and literature, it is exciting to share what I love.
DeleteAnd YOU SHOULD WATCH IT, lol aggrasive internet screaming here

Great idea to start with the definition of Dogma to help readers who may not know the term. I agree with Jillian that every entry you have written is driven by passion. Your writing is solid and your descriptions bring the movie to life. The articles are also interesting and provides another perspective which may provide a reason for some people to watch the movie and decide for themselves. No publicity is bad publicity.
ReplyDeleteCandid pictures at the end add a personal touch and add to the entry.

I agree with you on the no publicity is bad publicity, look at Kim K haha

I appreciate the tone and picture you paint about the movies you review without spoiling the ending it is a fine line that you walk very well. I immediately looked up the trailer for this movie and I am not sure how I have not seen it before. Good Will Hunting is one of my favourite movies so I am not sure how I didn't know about this movie by the pair. I will add this to my list to watch. I also loved the pictures at the end, I have a picture of Jake Gyllenhaal back as he passed in front of my cab in NY we take what we can get :).
ReplyDeleteGreat Job,
Nicole
Ben Aflek and Matt often work with Kevin Smith, check chasing Amy as well, or Mallrats you might like it too!
Deleteand haha sometimes we get the best snap of a celebrity, even when it's bad quality and not so interesting.
Thanks

Liat, this post does well again to think through a movie and its effect on you. At times, when you reference the context of when it came out, some further information about other cultural events or discussions going on at the time would be interesting to put the film even more into context. Overall, good work!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI watched Dogma when I was 10 and didn't like it much, though there was always something nagging at the back of my head telling me that I just didn't understand it. Normally I hate the excuse of 'oh, you just aren't smart enough to get it' but 10-year-old me was pretty darn dumb. I like your style of laying out this movie - in my opinion your blogs have only been getting better at this. I also appreciate that a movie that was so under-the-radar got the spotlight this week. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteYou should re-watch it, you probably will get the humour even more now. There are so many underrated movies that are amazing that it's sad. Thanks for the comment <3
